What is a solar generator?

When most people think of generators, they think of loud machines that run on gasoline or natural gas. Many generators are like this, but some run on solar power. A solar generator is technically any generator that runs on solar power, and by "solar generator" most people mean an easily transportable machine consisting of solar panels, a solar charge controller, a battery, and an inverter .

Because they're lightweight and relatively quiet in operation, solar generators are great for powering road trips and camping. Bring a solar generator and you won't have to worry about running out of power on your iPhone or laptop. You can also power mini fridges and other small appliances. Some people also use solar generators as backup power in the event of a power outage or other emergency, though most won't be able to power your entire home or even some larger appliances like a dryer or washing machine.

If you're interested in purchasing a solar generator that can be used as backup power during a power outage, you should first make sure you understand your home's electricity usage. This will help you decide if a solar generator is right for you and which type best meets your needs.

How does a solar generator work?

A solar generator works by converting the energy produced by the sun into electricity. Once photons, or particles of light, hit the solar panel, they release electrons from the atoms, which become direct current (DC) electricity. That charge then passes through the charger controller, which regulates the voltage as power enters the battery to protect the battery from damage.

Next, the battery stores electrical energy in the form of chemical energy until it is connected to an appliance. The charge then passes through an inverter, whose job it is to convert DC to AC. The converter must also step up the nominal voltage from 12, 24 or 48 volts to the voltage required by the equipment, usually a 110 or 240 volt nominal voltage. The electricity is then passed through the extension cord to power the electrical device.

Solar generators are very different from traditional fuel-powered generators. Unlike internal combustion engines used in fuel-powered generators, which burn fuel to move pistons and generate mechanical energy, solar generators convert sunlight directly into mechanical energy.our BIGLUX makes solar generators quieter and cleaner than fuel-powered generators, but also less powerful.
